WGM Constitutional Law Attorneys

Our History

Weston, Garrou & Mooney was built on a tradition of sophisticated advocacy and complex litigation. From the beginning, the firm’s work has been defined by disciplined analysis, strategic judgment and careful allocation of resources. Those principles remain the foundation of how we serve clients today.

Constitutional roots

WGM’s early work included landmark First Amendment litigation, including matters argued before the United State Supreme Court by founding partner John H. Weston, and mostly in collaboration with current Of Counsel, G. Randall Garrou. For a closer look at this work, explore our selected list of published cases. That legacy has helped shape modern free speech doctrine and established the firm’s reputation for principled advocacy in cases where speech, institutional authority, and government regulation collide.

The practice today

That constitutional foundation is not a chapter we closed. It remains an ongoing practice area and a defining influence on how we approach high-stakes disputes. Known for our thorough preparation and measured advocacy, the firm’s constitutional work requires precision at the highest level, and that standard carries into everything we do. We focus on the details that win motions, shape leverage in settlement, and strengthen outcomes at trial and on appeal. We also value restraint. We do not litigate for sport. We litigate with a clear strategy, a realistic assessment of risk, and a steady focus on the client’s objectives.

Today, WGM continues to litigate and advise on Constitutional issues in a number of settings, including disputes involving entertainment, campus speech, academic freedom, professional discipline, and institutional decision-making.

The firm’s practice is also deliberately broader. We represent employers in workplace disputes and provide strategic counsel on compliance and risk management. We advise entertainment industry clients on the legal and business issues that shape their deals, productions, and operations. We also handle business litigation and counseling for companies, executives, and entrepreneurs navigating complex conflicts and guiding their way through sometimes crippling restrictions.

Across these matters, the goal is consistent: rigorous analysis, precise advocacy, and practical judgment.

What our history means for clients

Clients often rely on WGM when the law is nuanced, the facts may be contested, and the stakes are real. Our history reflects a firm built for that terrain, with the ability to litigate complex questions and the practical experience to solve problems in employment, entertainment, campus speech and business contexts.
